Notes for William SALTS
William was listed with his parents when the 1860 of Washington County, Tennessee. He is listed with his wife Emily age 28 and a son, James D. age 2.

William Salts served in the Civil War in Company F of the 13th Tennessee Calvary commanded by Col. John K. Miller. He was identified as a Private and a Blacksmith. He was never found on the roll, but statements from two officers of this calvary division gave written testimonies that William Salts was a member of Company F. They further stated that William was captured on January 10, 1864 while out of duty, conveyed, house and then paroled at Richmond on March 20, 1864 and admitted to the local No. 2 General Hospital on March 24, 1864 where he died of Chronic Diarrhea in Annapolis, Maryland. There were no official Surgeon military records stating his final movements of his activity in the war. However, the two men stated that he died in or around the 18th of May in 1864. His wife claimed that he died on the 5th of April 1864. The Surgeon General also stated that he died on April 5, 1864.

We Emily Salts, Thomas C. Johnson and I. G Fellers are held and firmly bound unto the State of Tennessee in the penality of Five hundred Dollars witness our hands and Seals this 4th day of July 1865

The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the said Emily Salts has been appointed Administratrix of the Estate of William Salts Deceased Now if the said Emily Salts Shall well and truly as Such Administrix perform all the duties which are or may be required of her as Such Administrix according to law this obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force and effect.

[can't read] Bluff City Post Office address, under disability incurred it says " was captured by [ ?nelclo or velcho?] Jan 1864 and was exchanged for in May 64 and died in MD Mch 01 64"
