Notes for Phillip Gilbert (Spouse 1)
He was born about a mile north and two and a half miles east of Knob Noster on a farm now owned by the Kendrick family. He graduated from Warrensburg Normal School and from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He taught at Quail Track School for a year before returning to farm near Knob Noster.

In addition to farming, he was a teller at the Bank of Knob Noster for two or three years, a hog and cattle dealer, and operated various other businesses over the years including a restaurant, meat market, hardware store, and pool hall. P.G. Utley was postmaster of Knob Noster from 1934 to 1949.558

They were married in an old red brick house, which was one of the oldest houses in Knob Noster. he first floor was finished before the Civil war and the second floor, after the War was over. The house was constructed by Mr. Workman, who owned all the land where Knob Noster was built.558
