Notes for Lewis Cargile MATTHEWS
He was a member of the Enrolled Missouri Militia during the Civil War. That was on the Federal side, which is surprising since his older brother, Isom, stated that he was on the Confederate side when he applied to get into the old Confederate Soldiers Home in Higginsville, MO in about 1913.
600He is in the 1860 census for Benton Co., MO.
He enrolled on the first day of May 1864 at Warasaw, Missouri and was mustered into service as a private in company G, 16th regiment, enrolled Missouri Militia on the 26th day of September 1864 -- relieved from duty 16th November 1864. (State of Missouri Adjutant Generals Office City of Jefferson, Jan 3, 1911 No 45265).
