Maria T. Stovall was the daughter of Jesse C. Stovall (born 15 May 1766 in Halifax County, Virginia and died 27 August 1838 in Carrollton, Carroll County, Missouri) and Mary 'Polly' C. Drake (b. May 1776 in Montgomery County, Virginia, died 13 April 1850 in Carroll County, Missouri). Jesse and Mary were married 9 May 1795 in Jessamine County, Kentucky. It appears that that left Kentucky between 1804 and 1808 when Jesse sold his land in Kentucky. In 1829 Jesse was the Justice of the Peace in Rutherford County, Tennessee.
