I'm not really sure of the dates, but I do know that Uncle O.E. and my grandfather Govey (his brother-in-law) were in business together in Knob Noster. They invested in and ran, the local movie house called the Electric Theatre. My grandmother Covey (then Lena Alice Saults) played the piano for the silent movies. They married sometime after they had worked together. I think the business failed during the Great Depression. It didn't seem to make it very long. I remember the old cinema that was later used for local community gatherings - the Cub Scout Derby, just to metion one. I was only in the old projector room once. It was nice to be able to have that memory of my visit. I try to imagine my grandfather working in the projector room, and my grandmother was playing the piano down below.

On the 1900 census for Wisconsin his occupation is listed as Farm Implements,752 but from what I can tell and know from the family papers, Uncle O. E. had many types of occupation throughout his life. On his marriage certificate, it stated that she sold machinery.

In 1918 they were still living in Janesville, WI.420

In 1920 when her mother died they were still living in Janesville, WI.424

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Janesville, WI.412

After Aunt Marg's husband died, she moved back to Knob Noster and shared a house with her sister, Eula Patton. She, too, was a widow. They lived in a little two bedroom house on Jefferson Street and were very well known in the community.

Aunt Marg was a beautiful seamstress. But for all the years I knew her, she didn't do that much sewing. Her eyes failed and she stopped making quilts. The only thing she did after that in the way of crafts was making braided rugs, which she made on a regular basis. At some point, mom arranged to have scraps of fabric picked up from Unitog -a uniform company in Warrnesburg. It was run by a good friend of our, Densile Allen (we knew him as Uncle Densile). So Aunt Marg made rugs until she couldn't see, and couldn't feel, to sew the braids together.

In 2000 a woman from the east coast contacted me about a quilt she had purchased in an antique shop in Massachusetts. In the corner of the quilt was stiched, Margaret Covey O'Brien, 1933. She says it is a very beautiful floral patterned quilt pattern. I'm sure this quilt had something to do with Aunt Marg's sister, Lulabelle Covey O'Brien, who lived her final days out in Hartford, Connecticut, but I haven't been able to pin-point the date in our family history. The woman who bought the quilt says it is one of the most beautiful quilts she has ever seen. She displays it on her wall during the summer -as a piece of American cultural art.
