Notes for John GOVER
Most of this information came from “Grover, Immigrant to Maryland Colony in 1750” by Rose Gover and Bess Gover. Documentation was not provided for specific events but a list of general sources pursued. (Patty Woodall -- July 1998)
John came as an indentured servant to John Blackwood of London. He is said to have served as “taylor” to the Colony of Maryland for five years. John and family moved from St. George County, Maryland to Pittsylvania County, Virginia to a farm on the sandy river about 1780. John died intestate in Pittsylvania County, Virginia and his widow died there in 1799.
Two of John’s sons moved to Pulaski county, Kentucky in the early 1800’s -- they were Samuel and John, Jr. It appears that John’s son, William, remained in Pittsylvania County. In 1829 John’s daughters Margaret Garrett was living in Jefferson County, Tennessee, and Nancy Cooley was living in Knox County, Tennessee. There is no records for his daughters Mary Legg and Elizabeth Prestage.
