When Mary Jane McGinnis Salts died, her husband took the children fom Illinois to Tennessee and gave them to family and friends. It is not known if Ephraim Rising was a friend or a relative; however, it is known that Davis B. Salts was one of the Salts children given away.85 Ephraim’s association with Davis B. Salts was found in Davis’ Civil War Application.

Salts age 30 who has been identified as Davis’ uncle - his father’s brother. Ephriam was a Tinner by profession. Thomas B. Salts was also listed as a Tinner and Davis B.
