Harriette's husband, Arthur Jackson McGinnis Smith has been found in deeds as a young child that were connected to the German Brown family members named: Conrad and Elizabeth Ball Brown and Abraham and Catherine Bonakar Brown. At the time Conrad and Elizabeth Ball Brown were selling a small piece of land, which was described laying next to land owned by the two Brown family members listed above. Although no document has confirmed that there is a connection between Harriette M. Brown and the German Brown family line, there is evidence of a McGinnis-Smith and Brown connection.

1850 - In 1850 Arthur J. is living with Hannah McGinnis. His age is 21. He is listed as the eldest child, but is listed at the bottom of her entry (which makes the reader wonder why it has been listed at the bottom). His surname of Smith has not been recorded. When looking at all of the names listed under Hannah, one automatically assumes that they all have the surname of McGinnis. However, all related documents found for Arthur lists his surname as Smith, not McGinnis.
1858 - Arthur was named as being a son of Hannah in a deed transaction in Washington County, Tennessee dated June 13th in 1858. With this document, Hannah transferred all of her land over to her children, naming Arthur, Adeline, Elmira, Martha and Saraphina.
1860 - In 1860 A.J. is found as head of the household in Washington County, Tennessee, living next door to Hannah McGinnis (65 TN) and Daniel Salts. Others listed with Arthur are his wife Harriette and their children Lafayette, Cornelius, Alison and Loretta. There is also a William H. Brown living with them. His age is not given and it is not known if this William is related to A.J.'s wife, Harriet Brown. (house hold listing as Wa-111-123).
1866 - On the 18th of April in 1866, Hannah McGinnis and A. J. Smith were sworn witnesses for Saraphina E. McGinnis Dukes's Civil War Widow's Application. It does not give their relationship on any of the forms.
9421870 - In the 1870 census for Washington County, Tennessee, he is listed as A. J. Smith age 42 in the 15th District, with Harriett, L.P., C.A., A.W., R.V., L.E. and F.E. - WA 346.
1871 - According to the obituary notice for his son, Allison Woodville Smith, this Smith family was residing in Washington Co., TN up to 1872 (actually, October 8, 1871). This has been calculated by the information obtained from Allison Woodville Smith’s obituary and a letter from L. P. Smith -to Lena Alice Salts Covey, daughter of his cousin, Daniel Napoleon Salts. However, in another letter from L.P. Smith (which included the obituary on Arthur's son Neal -L. P.'s brother), this obituary said that the family arrived in Texas and settled on Walnut Hill near Carrollton on Neal’s 19th birthday -and if calculated correctly from his obituary, would have been October 8, 1871.
1058Carrollton is located approximately 10 miles North of Dallas. In the late 1800s there were two small villages located appromixately 5 miles North of Carrollton - Trinity Mills to the West, and Hebron to the East. Of the two, only Hebron remains today. Between these two villages was a small British colony, founded primarily by three families from Devonshire - the Furneaux, Morgan and Jackson families. The James and Smith families were also part of this colony.
1059 Trinity Mills is no longer a community but is located within the city of Carrollton, Dallas County, Texas.
1880 - Precinct 7, Denton, Texas. He is listed as Arthor Smith. He is living with his wife, son Woodville, and duaghters Retta and Fanny. It says that his father was born in Virginia and his mother in Tennessee.
1900 - Arthur Jackson can be found on the 1900 Dallas County, Texas census living with his daughter in Arlington. He recorded his occupation as a capitalist.
1924 - Copy of obituary - The body of Arthur Jackson Smith, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jett Cox, in Arlington Sunday arrived here Tuesday morning and services were held at the eleven o'clock hour at the Methodist Church, Rev. W. T. Lovell officiating, assisted by Rev. Joseph Morgan of Dallas. Pallbearers were grandsons of deceased: Dell Smith, E. L. and Earl Smith of Corsicana, Bill Smith, Ora Cox of Arlington, and Claude James. Burial at Cemetery Hill. The deceased was born in Washington County in East Tennessee in 1829, and was married to Miss Harriette Brown in 1850. He came to Texas in 1872 and settled near Trinity Mills. He was 94 years, 3 months and 15 days old at the time of his death. Mr. Smith joined the Methodist Church about 40 years ago and spent the time doing work for the Master. When death was approaching he expressed his desire to make the journey into the Great Beyond and that he was prepared to meet his Maker. Children who survive him are C. A. and A. W. Smith of Carrollton; Mrs. Reta Cox, Arlington; Mrs. Fannie Jackson, Wichita Falls, and Rev. L. P. Smith, Dallas. Grandchildren number nine and great-grandchildren sixteen.
