Rachel Bartley was 34 years old when she married John M. Salts. Their sons Robert Monroe and Reese were born in 1836 and 1839. Her husband died on the 2nd of October 1842, in Washington Co. TN. After John Salts's death, his wife and c hildren may have lived with the Bartleys. Records that have been found for Rachel do not identify where she lived with her children. Rachel is listed with Robert and Reese in 1850.1027

Robert's name has been found in North Carolina as "Bartley."

Robert Bartley's will was written and signed January 6th, 1862 in Greene County, Tennessee and in it, he mentions his daughter Rachel Salts as dec'd. That agreees with her being on the 1860 census with Robert M. Salts, Ellen Salts, and Reese Salts. Then, she died in 1861; Robert M. Salts enlisted in 1862; Robert Bartley made his will in 1862, and did not die until 1864.1020
