It makes sense, and the leap from the faith to Dutch Reformed would not be large, according to Rose Hayden-Smith's knowledge of these faiths. Also, the family (at least her great-grandmother's line) were and still are Episcopal, and the leap from Dutch Reform (not too far from Lutheran) to Episcopal would be possible.
