1870 to 1877 - Henry must have been removed from Washington County, TN after the death of his father in 1866. On the 1870 census, Henry can be found at the National Soldier's Orphan Home, District 93 in Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania. This census was taken on the 28th of June and he is with his brother John. They are both listed under the name of Saltz and their years of birth match up to previous census information and their father's Civil War pension application. The orphanage closed December 1877.

1879, March 17th - As recorded in the paperwork of his father’s pension and from letters to the pension board from his mother, Henry E. Salts died on March 17th 1879 in Tennessee.
