Notes for John CAMPBELL
John was a Private under Capt Findley who was from Augusta County, Virginia. Capt Findley was a member of the Tinkling Springs Church in Augusta County, Virginia.

1770 - John was placed on the military muster roll as it was thought John was 16 years of age. Being very anxious to do military service, he did not ell the Captain that he was under age. He served in Augusta County, Virginia and in General Washington's Army at Yorktown until five days before the surrender. At Yorktown, he had served two weeks overtime, while waiting for relief to come. David Campbell, thought to be John's older brother, served in the same company.

1779 - John and Sarah built their original farm home at Leesburg, then Greene County, Tennessee, which is today loocated a short distance northwest of Jonesborough, Tennessee. They lived their married lifetime in the same house, yet had lived in four Tennessee counties as the boarders changed around them and expanded westward. First they lived in Greene County, which became Washington County (part of eastern Greene County). Next the county was Cocke County, which expanded south of Greene and lastly it was Jefferson C ounty, which expands southwest of Coke. The living took place in one area, the present Washington County, but past records indicate different counties and will be in other counties.1076
