Maude M. Campbell was the first child of Edgar R. and Ora Florence Campbell. She was born Dec. 30, 1900 in Iowa City, lA. at a big house in the 200 block of. N. Gilbert St.

She attended Willow Grove Grade School in rural Johnson County in Sharon Twsp where she lived with her parents and brothers and sisters (on several farms as her father worked as a 'hired hand or man' ) and eventually on the the 'Hughes Farm' which they considered the family home. At age thirteen she joined the Welsh Church on July 27, 1913.

She attended Iowa City High School and completed the 'normal training' course which qualified her to teach in the Johnson County rural grade schools. She taught at several schoos for several years. These included: The Rarick School 8 miles east of Iowa City. [Here she lived with a local family and her sister Muriel also lived with the same family and taught at a different school. ]; at the school south of Iowa City for about 2 years, and at the Boone School s. w. of Iowa City & Sharon, IA.

It was while she taught at the 'Boone School' that she met Dwight Wood whose father was a Methodist minister at the Sharon Evangelical church not far away. Dwight and Maude were married on July 20, 1925. They lived east of Iowa City for a short time .

Maude took a business course and worked as a clerk and bookkeeper in an Iowa City men's clothing store.

Her husband Dwight worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company. His work with this company took them to Grinnell, IA for a year or so, then to Belle Plaine, IA and then to Cedar Rapids, IA.. In about 1934-35 Dwight worked for the Conoco Gas Station in Iowa City on Burlington St.

By this time Maude and Dwight had 3 children:
Loren Dwight Wood, born June 13 1926 in Grinnell, IA;
Donald Kirwin Wood, born February 24, 1930 in Cedar Rapids, IA ;
Norma Lou Wood, born July 29, 1932 in Iowa City, IA

Their next move was to a farm s. w. of Tiffin, IA where Dwight farmed and where they remained for several years. Bud, Don and Norma attended grade school in the Tiffin area and Loren "Bud" Wood went to high school at Tiffin.

Some yearslater when Dwight's health was failing due to emphysema, the family moved to Iowa City to So. Van Buren St. Don and Norma both attended / graduated from Iowa City High School. All 3 children married and started families in the early to mid' 50's. Dwight passed away on April 20, 1957.

Maude continued to live on Van Buren St. & worked for several year at the 'Hi Vee' store in south Iowa City in the bakery Dept.

In the 50's Maude had gall bladder surgery. Some years later she had colon surgery after cancer of the bowel was discovered. After this she lived with her children, Norma and husband, Ivan Ball and later on with Don and Henrietta "Tootie" Wood until she passed away on Oct 30, 1966.1076

Maude M. Wood is buried in Oakland Cemetery, in Iowa City, IA, Johnson County.
