He joined the Welsh Congregational Church in 1923 at age 14, along with his sister Mary. He later moved to Ft. Madison IA where he worked at the Iowa State Penitentiary, in the kitchens.
It was here in Ft. Madison that he met and later married Malita 'Ferol' Able. They were married on August 27, 1933 in Ft. Madison Iowa at her home. [See the pictures of their wedding.] Ferol had a sister Ramona, a brother Miles and another younger sister.
On October 7, 1934 a son, Kenneth Carl was born. He was their only child.
In 1939 he and wife Ferol and son Ken moved to Sharon IA where he assisted his father Edgar and brother Clive in managaing the Sharon General Store. Ken attended the rural Willow Grove Grade School in the 1940- 41 school year [ That year Ken & his cousin Peggy Thomas, dau. of Carl's sister Melva, both attended kindergarten at Willow Grove ( This was the same grade school which all the '9 Campbell children' had attended) ] . At the end of that school year Carl and family returned to Ft. Madison, IA where Carl returned to work at the Iowa State Penitentiary, became supervisor in the kitchens and worked there for some years. Ferol worked for a railroad company for many years & Ken attended grade and high school in Ft. Madison.

During this time (1953-1957) son Ken was married to Donna Jean Cameron on Dec 26, 1953 and attended the SUI College of Engineering. They all
lived together in an apartment on N. Govenor St in e. Iowa City. Ken's wife Donna also worked at SUI in the Applications/Registrar's office(?).
Carl & Ann then moved to the San Francisco, CA area where Carl worked as an Inhalation Therapist.
