Name:   Johan Nickel Zoll
Year:   1740
Place:   Philadelphia
Source Publication Code:   9041
Primary Immigrant:   Zoll, Johan Nickel
Annotation:   Contains 29,800 names, with annotations written by Krebs (see no. 4203). Various references to the names in Strassburger will be found in other listings, mostly where authors have attempted to line up their information with that in Strassburger. This work (often referred to as Strassburger and Hinke) is much superior to no. 7820, Rupp, and no. 1804, Egle. It forms a revision with additions to Rupp and Egle, and was prepared and edited with great accuracy. Vol. 1 contains captains' lists, 1727-1775; vol. 2 has facsimiles of all signatures of signers of oaths of allegiance and oaths of abjuration, and was not included in the G.P.C. reprint; vol. 3 has captains' lists from 1785-1808, and indexes to captains, ships, ports of departure, and surnames in all volumes. The set was originally vols. 42-44 of the Pennsylvania German Society Proceedings.

1762/63 - Johannes moved to Towamensing Township around 1762 0r 63. This date has been identified by documents on each side of this time period. [From the Brenckman History of Carbon County, page 198: “It appears that the first permanent settlement in Franklin township was made by the Solt family, and their descendants are still to be found in the district. Before the close of the Revolution, John, David and Daniel Solt lived here.” Also, on page 352: “In 1785, [Colonel Jacob] Weiss brought his family…to the new home [now Weissport]. At the time of his coming, the Arners, Solts and Hoeths were already settled along the Poho Poco creek, several miles to the eastward…”.] Source - http://www.kinfolks.info/arner/solt21.htm

1773 - Johannes Solt built a grist mill and farmhouse in 1773 on the Sawmill Creek above the Pohopoco Creek. This mill could have been a joint venture with his brother Daniel.

The mill was sold to Daniel Krum and his wife at an unknown date. In 1862 the Krum family sold it to Andrew & Susannah Hoppes who sold it to Isaac and Hiram Levan in 1865. In 1869 Hiram sold 1/2 of his interest in the property to his brother Isaac, the following year 1870 he sold his remaining share to Solomom Solt. In 1895 Isaac Levan purchased from the estate of Solomon Solt the outstanding share of the property. The house and grist mill remained in the Levan family until 1987 when Virginia Levan great grand daughter of Isaac sold the property. Virginia Levan still resides in the house and she keep the mill in working order until 1967 when the U S government cut off the water supply to the mill.
