1847, April 28th - Daniel Heberling swore that Paul Solt of Townmensing Township of Carbon County, Pennsylvania was a member of the Revolutionary War. He also said that at this time he was in advanced age / aged eighty-nine.

All of this letter was written as a declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed on June 7th, 1832. Heberling started that in about the year 1780-81 Paul Solt was drafted to serve in the Pennsylvania Militia under Captain Peter Roth for two months, during which time he was stationed along the frontiers of the township to repel the incursions of the Indians, and part of the time at ?Gnaddenhutter?, now Wesport? about two miles from where he now resides.

After returning home six or seven months, he was again drafted for two months duty under Captain Jacob Clader. After being discharged, he returned home for three or four months, but was drafted again under Captain John Ritter. He was given the rank of Ensign. His troops were assembled in front of Martin Arner’s House. With his new command, they numbered about 110 men and were stationed along East Pennsylvania near Chestnut Hill and Towamensing Township. While Captain Ritter marched, Paul Solt was left in command of twenty-five men.

At being discharged and returning home for six months, he was again drafted under Lieutenant Jesse Washburn where he served for one month and a few days. At that time, he thinks that it was Peace with England that brought forward his discharge.

Seven years later Paul Solt made a trip to Philadelphia and took Henrick Bauman with him to prove his identity and collect the amount of his pay that was due to him. He also says that Paul collected the amount due to him. He was owed the rate of five pounds per month as a private and fifteen pounds for the two months he served as an Ensign.

When Paul went to Philadelphia to collect his pay, the Commissioner/Controller Nicholson said that he didn’t have papers on him. He could see that he had been mustered, but nothing else. But there was no on alive who could account for Paul’s services.

Around 1834 Paul made another attempt of application to the Legislature of the State of Pennsylvania, this time, with Martin Arner’s help.

Around the year 1839 Heberling said that Paul Solt made application to the Legistation of the State of Pennsylvania for a pension. He said at that time, Martin Arner was known to him, and was a Revolutionary War soldier himself. Martin was also alive and still living in the Towamensing Township area.

The conclusion to this application was, he gave up all other claims and was allowed pension, for five months serving as private and two months service as Ensign, In Pennsylvania troups on his application dated April 28th 1847, while a resident of Townmensing, Carbon county, Pennsylvania.1195
