Notes for Arthur C. (Spouse 1)
Adeline claimed that Arthur enlisted in 1861 in Knoxville, Tennessee with Company D 63rd Tennessee Infantry and that he was with this company for 2 or 3 years. Witnesses for this were W. J. Sparks and Levi Kirby who were in the same company. It also states that Arthur was wounded at Petersburg, Virginia. T. L. Collins was also a witness on this application form (thought to be Arthur's brother).
1135The report from the War Department on Mary 31, 1906 gave this report - "The name A.C. Collins has not been found on the rolls, on file in this office, of Company D. 63d Tennessee Infantry, C. S. A. The records show, however, that one A. C. Collins, musician and private, Comapny K, 63d Tennessee Infantry, C. S. A., enlisted July 19, 1862. He is reported on the roll of the company dated October 31, 1864 (last roll on which his name appears), as absent, deserted about September1, 1864; that he took the oath of allegiance October 7, 1864, and that the was released at Knoxville, on account of being unable to travel."
