In 1793, the 'children of Boston Salts' were ordered to be brought to court 'to be dealt with according to law.' Calculating John to be then 21, he would have been born in 1772. We now know that Bastian Salts died in 1780, so the children must have continued living with their mother. However, it must have been after her death that the children were bound out in 1785. John Salts was bound to Frederick Miller of Rowan Co. 'to be taught the business of farming.'

We have no idea if this John is the same John who married Rachel Barkley in Washington Co., TN and died in 1842. But he does have a close enough date of birth.
