Using the information above, this must mean that Richard was married twice. If he was married and had two children in 1917, then his wife died, or he divorced before 1930 when he married Pearl ? Blackburn. On the 1930 census he is listed with his new wife and his stepson.

Richard's Social Security application form identifies his name as Richard Ferris Briggs. He also claims that he was born on the 15th of April in 1895 in Illinois, which doesn't really add up. On the 1910 census he can be found in his father's household as Richard F. 20 MO IL MO b. 1890. Also, Richard was the middle child. When his sister, Hulda, who was younger, applied for her Social Security number, she listed her mother as Anna Rucker. Richard also listed his birth place as Springfield, Illinois (which is probably where his father was born). His application was dated the 14th of January in 1938.1222
