Note: This Thomas is the eldest son of James and Jean Mathews. James Mathews,
father of Thomas, left him a slave named Cook in his will. This same slave was
passed on to Thomas’s wife Elizabeth (slaves Rachel and Hannah also) in Thomas’s
will.
