Notes from Dixie - 2 February 2008
1) Here's Peter Lance in Rowan Co. in 1790 census. That's Lentz in German. He's the one male over 16 with 3 females in the house. (Son Samuel had already married Rosanna Salt in 1786, but he isn't in the 1790 census; he and Rosanna may have left already.)
2) Here's a Peter Lance in Buncombe Co NC census in 1800. He is over 45, wife over 45, 1 f 16-25 (maybe one girl didn't go) and 1m 10-16 and 1m 16-25 (could be grandsons or anyone). By the 5 trees posted, he should be 68. Samuel is there, too, 35, along with two other brothers 42 & 47.
3) Here's Peter Lance dying in Buncombe Co. in either 1808 or 1813 (trees) but all agree on burial in Lance family cemetery, Royal Pines Mt. Buncombe Co. NC. I might look that up someday; it's not far from my home in the mountains.
Think that's solid enough to add to your website and a father for Samuel Lance? I have more about his marriages, birthplace, etc. but it's all from trees and they are notoriously undependable.
