Notes for Junior Bill “J.B.” SALTS
J.B. Salts, 82, of Erwin, TN passed on Saturday, August 2, 2014 in the James H. Quillen VA Community Living Center. He was a son of the late William and Lula Nelson Salts. Mr. Salts was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from CSX Railroad after 39 years of service as a yardmaster.
J.B. was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed his 22 years in retirement hunting, gardening, landscaping, and "fixing things." He was a simple man that lived and enjoyed hard work, and in his way, he loved and was loved by many. The earth that will miss the touch of his hand, will now cradle his remains.
J.B. was preceded in death by an infant son, Jay Patrick; four sisters: Elizabeth Stapleton, Lillian Tolley, Ruth Rothgeb, Pauline Riddle, and one brother, Ray Salts.
J.B. is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ruth Byrd Salts; his daughter, Karen Salts; three grandchildren: Christopher, Stephanie, and Trey; two great grandchildren: Wren and Luna Childers; brother-in-law, Joe Byrd; favorite nephew, David Salts, and wife, Jodi; nephews, Bill Byrd, and wife, Kay, and nephew, David Byrd, and wife, Jenny, also survive.
A celebration of Life Service for J.B. Salts will be held Monday, August 4, 2014 at 8:00 pm in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Pete Tackett will officiate. Special music will be provided by Maddy Farnor, soloist. Active pallbearers will be David Salts, Paul Farnor, Bobby Baucom, Donald Shelton, Frank Lane, and Ronny Keplinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Luttrell, Dr. Boccarossa and Dr. Holiday of the VA Medical Center.
The family of J.B. Salts will receive friends prior to the funeral service between the hours of 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The committal service for J.B. Salts will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in Evergreen Cemetery. Those attending the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 am to go in procession to the cemetery.
