Rev. Jacob Franklin Reed, 54 died in a Johnson City hospital at 3:15 p. m., yesterday. He was the pastor of the chucked charge of the Methodist church and had been a minister in the Holston Conference for approximately 30 years. He was pastor of the Parrotsville charge for 12 years; district superintendent of the Bristol district for six years; pastor of the Mosheim charge for six years and served other rural charges by preference. He was active until last Monday and filled the pulpit of the Pleasant Hill church last Sunday morning and attended a quarterly conference that afternoon. He became suddenly ill at his home ion Cherokee.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Georgia Peoples Reed, three sons, Theodore Reed of Cleveland, Ohio, Jake Reed of the U.S. Navy and Kenneth Reed of Jonesboro; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Reed of Cherokee; one brother, Byrd Reed of Cherokee and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Browning and Mrs. D. R. Cloyd, both of Telford.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m., EWT. Saturday at Mount Wesley. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Reb. Harold Harris, Rev. W.H. Johnson, feb. D.B. Cooper and the Rev. W.H. Harrison will officiate.
Ministers of the Methodist church will serve as honorary pallbearers, and relatives will as as flower bearers. Active pallbearers will be Leslie Bewley, T.S. Ellison, James Jackson, V.C Love, W.E. Thompson and E.G Moyer. The body will be removed to home of his parents on Cherokee this afternoon.
