Notes for John SALTS
From Connie - 3 February 2009

Here are my thoughts on John Salts b. April 7, 1891 and died Aug/Sept 5, 1918.

I think he was the younger brother of William M. Saltz Jr. He would be a grandson of Jesse Salts. He would be the second son of William Salts and Margaret Starnes. Junior Bill told me his father (William M. Salts Jr.) had a brother, but the brother died young ( he would have been 28).

I also think Frank Salts, 3 years old in the 1920 census, and living with John White and Rebecca Starnes, is the son of this John Saltz. From the WWI registration card of John Salts dated June 5, 1917, he states he had a wife and 1 child.

Both John Saltz and his wife may have died of the Spanish Flu. The year 1918 was the peak of the flu outbreak. John White and Rebecca Starnes took in John to raise when his mother died and then took in Frank when John died. The question remains - where is Frank in 1930? Also, if this is an accurate description of what happened, why were the two boys separated?

I ordered John Saltz's death certificate today, so hopefully we will know more in a week or so.
