Notes for Samuel (Spouse 1)
Notes from James Maxwell - dated 6 March 2009 - I was very glad to find the information you posted on-line about Daniel Napoleon Saults and Alice Graham! I am a distant relative of Alice B. Graham. I have been researching the Graham family for many years. Alice was the daughter of James D. Graham (1821-1858) and Mary E. Stull. I had not realized that James and Mary had a daughter until recently.

James was married to Mary Stull in December 1857 and he died in the Spring of 1858. His will made no mention of any children, so Alice must have been born after James died. I learned that Mary Stull Graham remarried in 1859 to a John Boling but he must have died by the time the census was enumerated in 1860 as on that census Mary is living in her father’s house without John Boling. Also, in that household is Alice Graham 2 years old.

James D. Graham was the son on Samuel Graham and Elizabeth Stuart of Lee County, Virginia. Samuel was the eldest son of Dr. William Graham who brought his family to Virginia from Ulster Ireland about 1801. Samuel Graham and family moved to Johnson Co., Missouri about 1834 and died there. I have never been to Johnson Co. myself, but hope to in the near future as there are marked graves there of Samuel and many of his children. In your bio of D. N. Saults you mention Victoria Ray as a cousin of Alice Graham. That is true. Victoria Ray was the daughter of Elzy Ray and Nancy Graham. Victoria married J. Warren Shepherd in 1877. Nancy Graham Ray was the eldest child of Samuel Graham and Elizabeth Stuart.

I can give you more information on these people if you are interested, and if you know anymore about Alice or any of her family I would be glad to know that. I was interested to see that Alice’s son Harlow Saults was a doctor. Many of William Graham’s descendants followed him in that profession (even if they didn’t know they were doing so).
