Hunter J. Markland
Hunter James Markland, 3, of Gray, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 15, 2009. Born on November 28, 2005, he was the son of David and Heather Mathes Markland. Hunter was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Hobart and Bess Mathes and Charlie and Cleo Bales; a great-great-aunt, Carrie Markland; and a great-uncle, James Markland. Hunter, a miracle from God, lived every day of his life to the fullest. He loved fishing, playing baseball, mowing, riding his 4-wheeler, and most of all, playing with his dogs, Jackson and Daisy. His precious smile touched and blessed everyone.
In addition to his parents, Hunter is survived by his grandparents, Bill and Velma Mathes of Piney Flats and Leon and Sue Montgomery of Elizabethton; his great-grandmother, Virginia Peters of Elizabethton; uncle, Travis Mathes of Gray; aunts, Heather Odom of Elizabethton and Kim Markland of Elizabethton; great-uncle and great-aunt, Joe and Rita Bales of Jonesborough; cousin, Zachary "Bubba" Shiflett of Elizabethton; neighbors, June and Glenn "Nanny and Poppy" Hood of Gray; and special friends, Kolby Jones and everyone at Miss Belinda's Learning Center in Colonial Heights.
A Celebration of Life service for Hunter will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, at Tetrick Funeral Services with Evangelist Charles "Toonie" Cash and Pastor Ronnie Brashear officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., prior to the service. A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 20, in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Gray. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. to go in procession. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Sanders, Corey Bare, Larry Lane and Billy Culbertson.
