Notes for Andrew (Spouse 1)
1819 - Tax list for Washington County, Tennessee

1827 - Salts, Andrew 32 Private 189.1 Washington County - privileges of citizenship restored. (Notes from Connie - Somewhere when looking at information about the War of 1812, I read that a lot of the soldiers thought they were agreeing for a 3 month term of service. The officers said they had committed to a longer term - 6 month to a year. There was much argument on this point and a lot of the men left after 3+ months service and went home. The military brought charges against them. Perhaps some of these charges cost them their citizenship???? We need a good War historian on this.)

1860 census, District 5, Washington County, TN
Andrew Salts age 65 NC
Rosa age 60 TN
Peter age 37 TN [Age is wrong] I think it is right.* Martha Brown must have died. Peter is back at home.
Jessee Hendrix age 10 TN [We think this is a grandchild from Margaret & Charles Hendrick ]
*This year the Andrew Salts household is listed twice, with different ages for Peter, Rosa and different names and ages for Jesse (once listed Salts age 12 and once Hendrix age 10). The age listed for Peter (27) in the other listing is John’s age.
The 1860 census has frequent difficulties; i.e. the listing for Jesse Salts, the listing for others. It seems the census-taker copied pages over and made some entries on separate pages. Maybe some were given orally. Ages are mixed up.

There are two entries on different pages for this family. The second entry has the following information - also, that information has been used in this data base. The above information was out too far regarding the dates of birth for Rosa, her son Peter and a boy named, Jessee Hendrix Salts [ possibly Jessee Hedrick, son of Charles and Margaret Salts Hedrick]

SALTS, Andrew age 65 NC
SALTS, Rosa age 60 TN
SALTS, Peter age 37 TN
SALTS, Jessee Hendrix age 10 TN

1863 – Peter Salts married Elmira Bayless 28 April 1863 Washington Co. TN daughter of John Bayless, age 16 in 1860.

1863 – John Salts, Cpl. 60th TN Reg’t (Crawford’s 79th) Co F. d. Sept 27, 1863 at prison in Point Lookout, MD. [Monument -- , Finn’s Point National Cemetery, Salem, NJ.]

Marian Zimmer: “I . . . am curious about the man who went to war with two baby girls and never came back. I don’t think the family even knew when or where he died as the only notation [in the family record in the family Bible] is ‘died in Civil War 1864.’” [email to Dixie Dellinger, July 30, 2002] Someone probably made a note when they finally heard of his death.

1868 –
John Wesley Morrison married Mary Salts on 3 May 1868 in Washington County, TN
