1813, May 31st - Jacob enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Private. His surname on this document alone, have been listed as McCardell, McCardle, and McCardy He was assigned to the 24th U.S. Infantry. He was 5 feet 8 1/2 inches tall, with blue eyes, fair hair and complexion. He was 24 at the time and his occupation was listed as a Cooper. He was born in Virginia. He signed up under Lieut. Stuart.

April 15/14 present an American pris of war, arrived at Plattsburgh - 1814. received & exchanged at “chazy, May 11, 1814. D.R. Cap’t James Stuarts Co., Feby 16 & I.R. April 30/15. present jd. at Knoxville from parol. I.R. June 30/15 on com’d at Mobile Point. I.R. Fort Montgomery, Aug 31/15 Died at Mobile Point. July 26, 1815. [U.S. Army, Register of Enlistments, 1798-1914]

- Marriage of Jacob McCardle to Rebecca Ball. Philip McCardle made his mark solemnising the rights of matrimony for his son’s marriage.

1815 - We have Hannah Emaline McCardle Salts born this year, but no strong documentation. Just an "assumed" date from looking at all the documents relating to her and her family.

Rebecca Ball McCardle Salts is identified in her father's will.107

The following note was found in the "History of Washington County, Tennessee, compiled by The Watauga Association of Genealogists, 1988", p. 420: "Jacob McCardle married in 1814, Washington County, Rebecca Ball daughter of Thomas, died shortly afterward in the War of 1812. His widow married in 1817 Daniel Salts. Only child Hannah Emaline, married about 1843, Washington County, Tennessee, Isaac W. Salts, brother of Daniel; had several children. Isaac is believed to be the youngest son of Henry and Mary Salts."

Rebecca Ball Salts from Tennessee Newspaper: Dec 7, 1871, Died; on Tuesday evening, Mrs. Daniel Salts. She had been suffering with cancer for many years. (Vol. 111 #14 Dec. 7, 1871)108
