1868 - There is a Charles A. Salts who attended the Lookout Mountain Education Institutions in 1868. It is believed that this is the only Charles A. Salts living in the WACO, TN area at that time. The directory states that he was from Rheatown. Also, this Charles A. Salts went on to be an engineer when he moved to Lauderdale County, Mississippi.465

On the 1870 census, his brothers John and Henry can be found in the National Soldier's Orphan Home, District 93 in Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania. It looks like his brothers stayed at the orphanage until it closed in 1877. However, the next entry is most probably him as well. So I’m a bit confused

1872 - Charles A. Salts, has again been listed at the Lookout Mountain Education Institution, but this time in Georgia. The directory said he was from Rheatown. I’m not 100% that this entry is him, nor the one above for the 1868 year, but the ages fit. There was another Charles A. Salts in Tennessee at that same time, but he was much younger, and this Charles A. Salts, 2nd cousin.

Harry listed above must be Charles’ brother. And it looks like he was working for H R Stone. H R, was Harley R. Stone and the same man who married Charles and Harry’s mother after their father died. So it looks like the two stepsons went to work for their stepfather’s business.
