The following information has come from various eMail correspondences from John Malcolm [Grady’s grandson] - John Grady Matthews was known to me, and sis, as Papa. His wife Marion Chattey was known to us as Mama. They owned a farm in Tegucigalpa, Honduras where they had seven homes and a patch of property where they grew vegetables, raised livestock, and provided locals with employment. During the 1930's and 1940's Papa had a lumber mill and was the exclusive Hondurainian exporter of mahogany lumber to the world. He told me that Errol Flynn built his prized sailing yacht from his lumber. Might have been a yarn but who knows. Mama had a brother named Pablo, and a sister (don’t remember her name at this time) who was an English Jew who was sent to one of the German concentration camps. There she died. My sister and I share the same dad. John Barrett Malcolm Sr. He was born in Minneapolis, Minn. His birth date is 8/21/1916. Our mother, Victoria Matthews was born in San Salvador in 2/21/1927. She had a sister. Mary Matthews. Don’t remember her middle name or DOB. My Sister might remember.
From
Ancestry.com’s Public Family Trees [temporary notes to be researched] - here is an entry for John Grady Page Matthews. His date of birth is given as 21 Jun 1890, but they state they are unsure of the year of birth. Also, it gives his wife’s name as Marion Chatty, born 12 Feb 1896, in New York, NY. It does not give a marriage date or any other information.
From
Ancestry.com’s Public Family Trees [temporary notes to be researched] - Harold A. Parkhurst - By looking at the dates for this man, if he were related, he would most probably be a son-in-law. I found that this man was born in Kansas and is on the 1930 census with his parents, but that’s about all. He was born in 1916, which is a different date. I have also found that he has crossed the Mexican border [haven’t pulled the records yet, don’t know where he fits in].
From
Ancestry.com’s Public Family Trees [temporary notes to be researched] - In the same public family file, the name Molier was also connected to Grady. I’m not sure if it was a second spouse or a daughter who had married a Molier. The entry gave no indication if it were a male or female’s record.

1918, July 5th - There is a Grady Paige Mathews listed in the WWI Draft Records files on
Ancestry.com. His date of birth is the 21st of June, 1895. He lists his place of birth as Nacogdoches County, Texas. Everything seems to fit, but the year of birth is out by two years. He gave Armstrong as his place of residence. All of the data fits this Grady Matthews, but the year of birth makes him two years older. At the time he registered, he would have only been 21 years old.

1920, Jan 29th - Border Crossing: From Mexico to U.S., 1895-1957. There is a Grady P. Matthew, who came to the US on the 29th of July in 1920. He was 26 years old, which would put his date of birth at around 1895. However, the index has his year of birth as 1882 in the index [this date is not on the actually form, so I don’t know from where this date arrived]. He said he was single, his race was English, he was a driller, and he had $50.00 in his pocket. He said he had been in the US before and that he could read and write. He was also traveling alone. His port of arrival was Laredo, Texas. There is a line on the form that i can’t really read, but it has Victoria, Texas in one field and Houston, Texas in another.

1935, May 26 - daughter Mary was born in El Salvador
Conversations with Matthews cousins about Grady
1950’s - Gene Cayton, a nephew of Grady's, said that he met Grady once in the mid 1950’s when he came back from Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Gene said that he thought Grady returned for an operation in Texas. It was a brief meeting, Gene didn’t really remember that much about him.
811 1969-1973 - [From the author] My father (Grady's nephew) never talked about our Matthews family. This was due to the problems between his parent’s who had separated many years before. But I do remember having a conversation with my mother and asking about Grady. She said he migrated to South America.
1998 - In 1998 I met Pace Conner when he was on his honeymoon in England. It was the first time we ever met. We talked about Grady and the mystery behind him. He said when Grady was young, he worked for Coffee Rice Conner. At that time in Archer’s History, Coffee Rice Conner was president of the bank during the 1920s. When the Stock Market crashed in 1929 he lost most of his land and other assets because the president of the bank [at that time] was liable for the debts of the bank. He never got over this.
812 But he also said, that while all of this was going on, "there were many things going on between the Conners and the Matthews families.” He didn’t know anything other than that.
2000 - In a letter from Aunt Polly (Grady's niece) - She remembered seeing a picture of Grady’s daughters on one of her visits to her Aunt Maime. Aunt Polly also thought that Grady had come from El Salvador when she met him on that trip.
2001 - When I met with Carol Taylor in London on her family holiday (10 Aug 2001), she thought that Grady had gone to Panama.
