Notes for Samuel F. (Spouse 1)
Samuel F. Gover, Jr and Isabella Crain are both buried in the Jacksonville City Cemetery, Jacksonville, Texas in Cherokee County, on the north side of the cemetery.

They had 14 children, several of whom are buried in the same plot.

However, his date of death was NOT 1852. The Gover family came to a small community, then known as Gum Creek, Texas, in 1852. In 1872, the community moved to a location that would allow them to take better advantage of the new railroad, and changed the name to Jacksonville.

The 1880 Federal Census shows Samuel Gover living at the age of 81 with his wife, Isabella, age 72, and three children: Lewis, Lou (female) and Francis (Sarah Francis), ages 54, 32 and 30 respectively. Also on the farm were four persons of color: Charlie Wilson, a 23 y.o. black male, Thomas Webb, a 26 y. o. black male, Sallie Gibson, a 22 y.o. black female and Lewis Gibson, a 23 y.o. black male.

If you would like any further information, I would be glad to share what
little I have.

Sincerely,

Johnna L. Anderson
g-g-g grand-daughter of Samuel F. Gover, Jr.
