1830 - He is 6 years old

1840 - He is 16 years old and probably still living with his mother

1845 - At the age of 21, Matthew married Ann Eliza Smart in Mercer County, Kentucky. Harris Smart was also mentioned with Mathew as bonds men. But down at the bottom of the document, it is Mathew Hall and Henry P. Smart (Eliza’s father), who have each left their marks.891

1850 - Matthew and his family can be found in District 1, Garrard County, Kentucky in the 1850 Federal Census. They are listed as:

1854-1855 - The following six entries have been taken from the original plate of land ownership in Jackson Township, Johnson County, Missouri. From these listings, we know that Matthew and his wife were the original owners of the land, but from other documents recording the sale of the same land, we can see that they did not own the land for very long. It looks like they sold the land so fast that when the plate map was finally printed, it still showed them as being the owners of the land -even though they sold the land several days / months after they obtained ownership.

1854, 29 September - Land Owner - Matthew A. and Ann Eliza Smart Hall were identified as the original owners of the NE 1/4 of Section 13 in Jackson Township 47, North, Range 29, West of the 5th P.M - Johnson County, Missouri.

1854, 7 Oct - Land Sold - Matthew and Ann Eliza Smart Hall sold 40 acres of land to Samuel Shirley for $20. The land sold was was located in Section 12, Townnship 47 Range 29, SE 1/4 of the NE 1/4 - Johnson County, Missouri.

1854, 20 September - Land Owner - Matthew A. and Ann Eliza Smart Hall were identified as the original owners of the right half of the NW 1/4 of section 13 in Jackson Township 47, North, Range 29, West of the 5th P.M. - Johnson County, Missouri.

1855, 7 September - Land Sold - Matthew and Ann Eliza Smart Hall sold land to Andrew J. Dennis for $400. The land sold was located in Section 13, Jackson Townnship 47, Range 29, E 1/2 NW 1/4 - Johnson County, Missouri. (Andrew J. Dennis was the husband of his brother Peter’s daughter Lucy)

1856, October 10 - Matthew A. Hall purchased 40 acres of land in Johnson County, Missouri. Section 12, Township 47-N, Range 29-W, Meridian 5th PM [Accession Number MO1840_.124, Land Office was Clinton, Authority April 24, 1820: Sale-Cash Entry (2 Stat. 566), Document 44609]

1857, May 1st - Matthew A. Hall purchased 160 acres of land in Johnson County, Missouri. Section 13, Township 47-N, Range 29-W, Meridian 5th PM [Accession Number MO1880_.233, Land Office was Warsaw, Authority: April 24, 1820: Sale-Cash Entry (3 Stat.566]

1857, May 1st - Matthew A. Hall purchased 80 acres of land in Johnson County, Missouri. Section 13, Township 47-N, Range 29-W, Meridian 5th PM [Accession Number MO1880_.023, Land Office was Warsaw, Authority: April 24, 1820: Sale-Cash Entry (3 Stat.566]

1858, June - In June of 1858, Matthew and his wife Ann Eliza where living in Johnson Co., Missouri when the estate of Ann Eliza's grandfather, Benjamin Daniel, was being divided up between the Daniel grandchildren. Matthew A. Hall and his wife, listed in the will as, Eliza Smart Hall, gave power of attorney “from” Warrensburg, Johnson Co. Courthouse in Missouri “to” Matthew's brother, Fielding Mace Hall. In the power of attorney, it identified Fielding Mace Hall was a resident of Lincoln Co., KY. The transaction was in regard to property or money due them from Eliza’s grandfather's estate.697 The document was made by the court officials in Warrensburg, Missouri, but the original documents were found in the court files of Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., KY. I did not find anything under Matthew Hall (or Hale) while researching in the Johnson County Courthouse.

1858, June to August 9, 1860 - Sometime between these dates, Matthew and his family moved from Johnson County, Missouri (where their last legal transactions we’re found on that date) to Sebastian County, Arkansas (Greenwood Post Office) - The latter date is the day the Sebastian County census was taken.

1860-1865 - Reading about the history of Sebastian County, Arkansas I’m thinking that Matthew might have died during the Civil War conflict while living in this area. Apparently due to the intense conflicts, residents had no choice but to fight. Farmers were set upon and forced to take up arms. At least one of Matthew's sons [Fielding] was pushed into fighting as well. He signed up in Arkansas in the Fall of 1862.

After the war, it seems that the two brothers Fielding and George ended up migrating over into and were living in the Bexar and Cotulla, La Salle County, Texas areas. I’m confused on their father. At first I thought he died sometime in between 1960 and 1865, but he may have migrated off to Texas with is sons. He later shows up in 1873 in Texas purchasing land, and again in 1895 in Arkansas purchasing land. Unless he had another son named Mathew A. Hall.

1895, October 8th - I have no idea if this is the same Matthew A. Hall. If it was, he would have been 71 years old if it is him.
Matthew A. Hall and Nathan Humphreys purchased 40 acres of land together in Sebastian County, Arkansas, Accession Number AR1930_.332, Clarksville Land Office, Section 18, Township 7-N, Range 29-W, Meridian 5th PM, Sebastian County, Arkansas. It was the south east quarter of the south east quarter of Section eighteen in Township seven, north of range twenty nine west of the Fifth Prime equal meridian in Arkansas containing forty acres.

Matthew and Ann Eliza Hall moved to Johnson Co., MO. Eliza’s brother Harris is listed as the witness on Matthew and Ann Eliza’s marriage bond. There are no parents listed for Eliza. She “consented” in person.698
