1858 - He is mentioned in his father will and it said that he was living in Charleston Co., Missouri on 12 May 1858.337

1861, September 18 to December 20th 1861- Civil War service - Union
26th Reg't Inf Vols., rank of Capt with Company E. He was 29. He enlised on the 18th of September in 1861 at Pacific, MO and was musterd in on the 20th of December in 1861 at Pacific, MO. He resigned on the 29th of March in 1862. He was Captain from December 20th 1861 until he resigned. This is the only file for Legrand where the Descriptive Roll could be found. He was age 29, dark hair, blue eyes and light complexion. He waas married and a farmer from Franklin, Missouri.

1862, April 4 to April 6 1863 - Civil War service - Union
46th Reg't E. M. M. Co. H, rank of Private, Comander Captain R. W. Quinn. He enrolled at Roanake, Missouri and was ordered into service on that same day, same location. He was relieved from duty on April 6, 1863 with 62 days of actual service.

1864, November 18 to March 12, 1864 - Civil War service - Union
46th reg't E. M. M. Co. F as a Private under Captain A. Dewey. He enrolled on the 18th of November in 1864 at Roanoke, MO and was ordered into service on the same day, same town. He was relieved from duty on March 12 in 1865, serving 21 actual days of service.

1864, March 21 to July 10 1865 - Civil War services - Union
Denny's Chariton, Randolph and Howard Counties V. M. M. G. O. No. 3. He went in as a Private under the command of Capt A. Dewey, enrolled on the 21st of March in 1864, ordered into active service on the same day, same year, again in Roanoke, MO. He was relieved from duty on July 10 1865 and served 111 days of actual service.
