Allison Woodville Smith migrated to Texas from Tennessee with his parents in 1872. He was attending Hoslton Institute with his brother, L. P. Smith, when they decided to make the trip. The family settled near the present site of Carrollton.

Allison and Ida made their home near Hebron in Denton County and later moved to what was known as the old Jackson Place north of Carrollton, TX. In 1911 they built a new home in Carrollton and were linked in with the community. He was known as Uncle Wood and lived a happy and vigorous life.1042

In his obituary, it stated that he was buried next to a son, who had died before him.
