FALL BRANCH - Myrtle Mae Smith, 90, Fall Branch, passed away Saturday (Aug. 26, 2006) at her daughter's home after an extended illness.

Mrs. Smith was born in Greene County to the late Perry and Hester Saltz Bales and resided most of her life in the Fall Branch community. She had resided with her daughter for the last eight years in Kingsport. Myrtle was of the Baptist faith. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Hayes; her second husband, Guyan Smith; one brother, Charlie Bales; and six sisters, Julie Willis, Fannie Collier, Pauline Cross, Grace Crain, Nana McGee-Ricker, and Irene Hunt.

Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Hammonds, Kingsport; two sons, Jimmy Hayes and wife Mary Ruth, Fall Branch, and Billy Smith and wife Connie, Kingsport; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Victor Wallace officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

A very special thank-you to the home health caretakers, Sheena Meade and Tina Reece, and the hospice nurse, Lenora, for their care and compassion.

The grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
