“In 1913, Virgil Seay, a 21-year-old cowboy, was in charge of driving a heard of cattle from Belcherville to Archer County. The cattle were the foundation heard for the newly purchased 2,000 Seay Ranch, which Jeff Seay of Montague County had bought for his son Virgil to operate. The five day drive from Belcherville required the helop of Virgil’s brother Hardey and cowboys Ike Stout and Perk Gibson with Tom Sanders to drive the chuck wagon. Virgil was to remain a rancher in Archer County until his death in 1963. Maime Matthews, who was to become Virgil’s wife, had been brought to Archer County earlier as an infant in 1896 by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthews, from Electra.
